HomePageWelcome to thePILOTSthePILOTs are a set of introductory qualifications for technicians supporting ICT in organisations. The intended audience is technicians working in small to medium sized organisations and 16+ education. These materials are designed for delivering with free software, specifically GNU/Linux. The qualification itself is not, however, operating system specific. The project is being developed under the GFDL. The results of the survey of proposed content are now available. Comments welcome! The topics covered are:
Bronze 2The second step of the qualification is intended to be delivered in a two day face-to-face session. This will incorporate the content of of Bronze 1 and extend it, adding into the following areas:
Assessment will be by tutor assessment and examination. SilverThe third stage of the qualification will develop the content from the Bronze qualification. The course may be delivered purely through a Virtual Learning Environment and will involve practical work and contribution to the environment. Around 40 hours work will be involved, the majority on-line, the rest self-paced learning and research. Groups of between 3 and 12 students will be working together in the environment. Assessment will be done jointly by peers and the tutor, based on contribution and tests. The student will need access to at least two computers and a network hub. GoldThe final stage of the qualification will be project based and agreed with the tutor. As well as developing Professionalism and Customer Relations it will involve a case study based on one or more of the areas covered in the Silver component.
